Abstract

Sports fulfil a major role in society, extolling universal values since ancient times. However, some aspects related to sports have also been reassessed due a variety of reasons. In terms of gender, sports assigned to men exclude women rather ruthlessly in general terms and football could be an example of this. The feature film Bend It Like Beckham (Chadha, 2003) deals precisely with the inclusion of women as future professional football players. The film has been extremely popular, becoming a didactic tool on gender matters as well as other issues. To understand the narrative and creative elements of the story, this research undertakes a creative-narrative analysis based on the theories of Chatman (1990) and Guilford (1973). Some remarkable aspects related to creativity have been found in the film regarding its devises and its originality. On the other hand, ambivalent elements were detected regarding the characters in the story.
