Resumen

Lichen planus is a common oral disorder of uncertain aetiology, which may represent the manifestation of a mucosal reaction to a variety of aetiological factors. Some of these factors seem to be strongly related to the process, but others may simply be epiphenomens or related to it fortuitously. In this review all of them are discussed and exposed the hypothesis that actually seems more acurate to explain the pathogenesis of the disease.
