Resum
Aphanius iberus is an endemic cyprinodontid (Pisces) of the Iberian Peninsula that is catalogued as in danger of extinction in several national and international lists. Its populations from the Murcian Region are among the most important for the conservation of A. iberus in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula. Lack of knowledge about the biology of endemic ichthyofauna is an important factor responsible for the serious danger of extinction. This several years long continuous study of A. iberus distribution range, genetic variability, life history traits, demography and conservation status has established the bases for the management and conservation of the species in this region. Moreover, the present study is the first about its biology in the southern area of its distribution range. This doctoral thesis is a work framed completely in the axioms of the conservation biology and it is focused in the management of endangered species.
