Résumé

This work focuses on the performance of Hernán Cortés in the months after the fall of Tenochtitlan (August 13, 1521, day of San Hipólito), from the capture of Cuauhtémoc, which marks the end of the war in the city, until his appointment as governor (October 1522). The activity of Cortés was intense: he appointed the members of the town hall of Tenochtitlan, ordered the reconstruction of the devastated capital of the Triple Alliance, arranged the foundation of the town of Medellín, dispatched captains to tour the territory and intuited the possibilities of the Sea from the south. In December 1521, he met the arrival of Cristóbal de Tapia, provided as governor, a setback for his numerous projects. From a thorough documentary review we reconstruct this stage, especially the action of the attorneys of the New Spain councils (Veracruz, Segura de la Frontera, Tenochtitlan and Medellín), and the representatives of Hernán Cortés in the presentation of the provisions of Christopher of Tapia. The investigation investigates the arguments they gave to show all their acts as a service to Their Majesties and in defense of the common good, as well as those used by Tapia in their responses
