Abstract
This paper analyzes infertility as an �atypical clinical problem� and the relevance of its psychological consequences. It describes thecircumstances that can lead to a life crisis in the couple and provides an overview of research on devaluation of the self-concept andon emotional adjustment. It also considers negative psycho-social and economic implications in developing countries.
