Abstract

Since The Holy Scriptures were regarded as God’s word passed on to man, they were seen as a source of legitimate authority that was never put into question. It should come as no surprise, therefore, that quite a number of elements related to the Bible be present in the hagiographies of Saints Cyril and Methodius. These elements may be divided into rarely literal, mostly amply paraphrastic quotations, and both explicit and implicit comparisons, which are the subject of this study.
