Abstract
The article analyzes the forms of punishment used in rural communities during the Restoration period. Social conflicts were the scene in which diverse and changing forms of punishment were deployed among disputing parties. These punishments allow us to examine the norms and values that regulated collective coexistence in rural communities, the ways in which conflicts were managed and control over neighbours was exercised. The political disputes and the new forms of social mobilization that appeared during these decades led to changes in the management of conflict and the use of punishment. These changes allow us to observe the transformation of ideas, identities and social relations in the local environment.
