Resumen

Creativity has been replaced by profitability in contemporary cinema. The consumer hasthe power, and productivity imposes its laws; consequently, we assist to a multiplicityof genres and styles (only apparent) that prioritizes the media over the message. Infiction cinema, “commerce” can be analyzed through the composing criteria of musicalsoundtracks: is the music produced for these movies really `contemporary’? Are therehegemonic models that influence different scores? How can the role of the composer beredefined when he has no competence in music? In order to answer to these questions,we propose the study of two examples: the music for the filmsAbre los ojos (Alejandro Amenábar, 1997) and the USA version (transformed and adapted)Vanilla sky (Cameron Crowe, 2001).
