Abstract

Introduction. Scientific research in the health and medical field is no longer based on individual scientists, but is mainly fed by group collaboration. The world is connected in network and this, focused on research and innovation, can help scientists to generate new knowledge useful to overcome health challenges. For this collaboration to happen, it needs an important aspect, trust. There are cultures that are more collaborative than others when it comes to generating that key trust in this model of working for scientific research. Objective. To analyze the network collaboration and the expected results of scientists in the health field in Colombia and the influence of culture on them. Materials and methods. Surveys were carried out on 232 researchers, responsible for recognized groups in the area of health, identified by the entity that manages research in Colombia (Colciencias). Results. It is observed that the collaboration is rather international and that the results obtained are lower than expected. Conclusions. The Colombian culture has some difficulties to generate confidence among people who are not directly from their family and friends, this confidence are key in the collaborations. From the data provided by the survey, negative differences can be observed between the expected results and those obtained. The culture could be influencing a decrease in results with respect to those expected.
