Abstract

The aim of this research is to assess the impact of education oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the Agenda 2030 (UN, 2015), incorporated into the course “Education for Social Responsibility” imparted in degree programs at the Francisco de Vitoria University (Madrid), and to determine if these have a significant impact on the acquisition of transversal competences related to social responsibility. This responds to the guidelines of the European Commission towards education and training in sustainable competences (European Skills Agenda for sustainable competitiveness, social fairness and resilience, 2020). A quantitative methodology was applied, using a previously validated questionnaire to obtain the “University Student Social Responsibility Index”. It was concluded that this course contributes to students’ understanding of the meaning and basis of human dignity and solidarity in every dimension of the human being. It also develops the capacity for thought and awareness of social, economic and environmental problems both globally and in their immediate surroundings. The results of this research show that this type of training raises student awareness and encourages habits related to the two principal areas of the Agenda 2030: people and prosperity.
