Abstract

The preliminary results of soil CO2 fluxes (Rs) from two silvopastoral systems in the Sierra deGuadarrama (Riosequillo, (R) and La Herrería, (LH)) with two management types, grazing (G) andgrazing exclusion (NG), are shown. Two years of grazing exclusion in R caused significant differencesin the annual C emission (g·C·m-2·year-1) with lower values in holm oak and hay NG areas than in Gareas. In the ash forest area, the values were higher in NG than in G. Moreover, no significantdifferences due to grazing exclusion were observed in an ash tree areas in LH. With the availabledata, the differences observed in the fluxes might be related to the grazing effect in the soilhumidity. A continuous monitoring of soil fluxes will be necessary, as will the characterization oftheir evolution with the characteristics of the vegetation and the soil, to explain the mechanismsthat contribute to the dynamics of C in these silvopastoral systems, and to accurately assure theirrole as a source or sink of CO2.
