El efecto de la motivación en la supresión de recuerdos no deseados

Resumen
Nuevas aportaciones al estudio del olvido motivado han revelado que las funciones ejecutivas tienen un rol activo en este proceso. Estudios realizados utilizando el paradigma Think/No Think han demostrado que los mecanismos de control inhibitorio pueden evitar que memorias indeseadas accedan a la consciencia, y que esta supresión de la memoria puede producir finalmente el olvido de esas memorias. Sin embargo, la gente no siempre está motivada a olvidar en el contexto de un procedimiento experimental. Para explorar el efecto de la motivación en el olvido motivado, participantes con fobia a las arañas y voluntarios sin fobia completaron una tarea Think/No Think en la que tenían que recordar o suprimir imágenes de arañas. En general, los voluntarios altamente motivados a rechazar memorias indeseadas recordaron peor que los participantes controles. Aunque los participantes con fobia a las arañas no mostraron claramente mayor olvido de los ensayos de supresión que los voluntarios sin fobia, sí mostraron una tendencia hacia una ausencia de efecto de práctica y hacia un mayor efecto de supresión. Se discuten las limitaciones de este estudio piloto, como la alta similaridad perceptual de los estímulos, y posibles direcciones futuras.
