Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the process of social reproduction of the Spanish power elite during the end of the Francoist dictatorship, the transition to democracy and its definitive consolidation. In this aforementioned process, we highlight the role of the socalled bureaucrats, the high-ranking officials that belong to the traditional elite Administration corps. When we pay attention to the political changes that have happened in the last decades in the Spanish democracy, a strong bureaucratic continuity is to be considered as a main structural feature. This technocratic elite can be also characterized for its internal cohesion and its affinity with the business’ world interests and ideology.
