Résumé

The aim of this article is to explore some ideas on the extent to which the study of social movements - and in particular the analysis of peace protests in the final stages of the Cold War - can contribute to unveiling a different socio-cultural approach to international relations from an ordinary people perspective, beyond state borders. By adopting a comparative approach to anti-NATO mobilizations during the 1980s in Spain, the article intends to draw some conclusions about the dangers of underestimating and overestimating social movements in the dynamics of an alleged "détente from below". Keywords: Peace, Cold War, Nuclear Deterrence, NATO, Europe
