The Sahel, the southern shore of the Sahara, although apparently remote and unknown, constitutes a space of transition, anode of intercommunication in Africa and from there to Europe,as has been evident on several occasions throughout history. Its people have lived maintaining a balance in which climate, ethnicity, economic activity and demography, together with otherexternal parameters, generated an equation that was not alwaysresolved without conflict, and that saw the birth of weak statesfrom their very birth.Currently, climate change and the demographic explosion, together with the exponential development of terrorism andorganized crime, added to the efforts of old and new powers forcontrol of the area, have generated a storm that does not stopgrowing in destructive capacity and width, threatening not onlySahelian and African populations, but also European ones.
