Résumé

The following article proposes a critical review of the Porta Esquilina in the city of Rome (Italy), which contains two inscriptions in honour of Gallienus (253-268) and his wife Salonina made on the inner and outer architraves of the door and ordered by the equite Aurelius Victor in the year 259. We will analyse the archaeological, morphological, palaeographic and prosopographic features of the door and its epigraphs, and then focus our attention on the study of the Roman capital as the centre of the image and aulic self-representation of the emperor Gallienus.
