Abstract

This article is based on the results from studies on sexism and violence against women in adolescence between 2010 and 2020 by the Preventive Psychology Unit of the UCM for Spain’s Government Delegation for Gender Violence. The main advances are observed in less psychological violence and intimate partner control in a relationship, greater identification with equality and rejection of machismo, greater communication about such violence in the peer group and in the family, as well as in school prevention. However, progress has faltered in the most serious forms of violence, and new problems arise such as online sexual harassment, which affects a very high number of adolescents. Among its conclusions, this research highlights the need to extend school prevention to the entire population (now half do not remember it), and to prevent sexual violence, including that carried out online. The link between the results of these studies and those in the Youth Report in Spain 2020 and in the HSBC survey promoted by the WHO is also analyzed.
