Abstract

On May 11th, 2011 took place in Lorca an earthquake that affected mainly the historical heritage of the city, catalogued as the greatest catastrophe heritage of Europe in recent years. This earthquake is an outstanding example for the study of damage to historic buildings associated with the near field during an earthquake. A team of researchers from universities and research centers (IGME, URJC, UAM and UCM), funded by the MCI, works in the RESCATELO proyect in order to inventory and analysis of the effects before they are removed. The objectives of this project are: a) to extrapolate the results of the Lorca earthquake to archaeological sites where damages are observed but no instrumental parameters of the earthquake are available, b) study and analyze of the ground shake and therefore the oriented damage (direction N130° E), to facilitate the restoration and future actions taking into account this orientation.
