Indicadores de sustentabilidadeda teoría á práctica

Resumen

Choosing and searching for indicators of sustainability calls for thinking about the concept of sustainability itself. Because of that, this papers explains firstly the notion of sustainability on the basis of two approaches, ecological economics and agroecology; highlighting its time-space, multidimensional, relative character of sustainability, as well as the need to define it considering different properties of the system (ecological, economic and social stability, equity, autonomy, productivity). Secondly, this paper presents part of the outcomes of a case study carried out in the realm of wider research project. Within this project, heterogeneity in the management (specifically within milk production) was researched by looking for different Styles of Farming. Once we had the different styles the aim was to analyse the higher or lower contribution of any of those Styles to Sustainability, according to different indicators of sustainability.
