Diphrastic kennings are heavily used resources in Mesoamerican languages those cause a great interest between researchers because of their non-explicit meaning. They consist in the association of two or more terms of the same grammatical category, each of them has their own meanings, but when they appear together or in a relation, they refer to a third idea or concept different from the sum of their parts.This research focuses on the identification and study of diphrastic kennings as a rhetorical resource, both, as its own part of the language and as a way of representing and understanding the reality of a culture, the Mayan culture, through the time. With an inter and multidisciplinary methodology that approach the study of these resources from their original sources, their identification and analysis both synchronic and diachronic are possible. On the one hand, the study of these resources is approached in the hieroglyphic texts of Prehispanic Period (ca. 250-1521 A.D.). The earliest known examples appear in the Early Classic and their presence increases gradually, and their use extends until the end of the period. There are just a few varieties of examples, but they appear very frequently in the Central Lowl and inscriptions, mostly during the Late Classic and in the Postclassic codices...
