Abstract

Design is a professional and academic field that is currently undergoing a process of reformulation. Among the new specializations within the field, strategic design has been acquiring increasing notoriety and relevance since the beginning of the 21st century. This research aims to contribute to the shaping and delimitation of the scope of strategic design. The relationship between design and socioeconomic systems has been taken as the centerpiece of the research. The term ‘system of production, exchange and distribution of goods and services’ has been used to encompass a broader study beyond the prevailing identification between economics and finance.This thesis work focuses on the current process of profound transformation of the systems of production, exchange and distribution of goods and services. This process implies the questioning, revision and reformulation of the basic paradigms that sustain those systems. At the same time, the theoretical framework of Systems Theory and complex thinking have affected and galvanized all areas of knowledge.
