Zusammenfassung

The collective imaginary of humanity has enshrined three basic ideas about Islamic civilization and its relationship with commerce: The first affirms that the positive vision of trade in the Islamic world is because the Prophet Muhammad had been a merchant. The second establishes that one of the cultural keys of Islam culture was to have appeared in a nomadic and sheepherding socio-economic context that became urban and commercial. Third, it is stated that the Muslim world was made up of a conglomeration of extraordinarily diverse and heterogeneous peoples who, by sharing the same religion and establishing stable commercial and religious caravan routes, ended up forming one of the first globalized commercial spaces in History. This article tries to analyze from the perspective of the Arts History and Material Culture the impact that trade had on Muslim artistic productions, some as unique as the souk, the bazaar, the caravanserai, the alcaicería and the alhondiga
