Résumé

This study analizes the maintained relationships between secular powers, monasteries and convents in the cities of Castile. It shows its contribution to the foundation and transfer of monasteries. The latter played an important socioeconomic role within cities, through professions, as a meeting place, deposit, refuge, and various other related to urban government. Such links caused the friars to become immersed in the citizens' problems, discussing issues such as nobiliary conflict and the Jewish question
