Resumo

This paper deals with the Spanish Geology Olympiads. Its aim is to investigate if it promotes the increase of the number of students who get involved in a Geoscience career at university. In this way, data of the national winners in the ten editions carried out so far (2010 to 2019) are analysed. Although the percentage of students interested in studying Geology at the beginning of each Olympiad is not usually very high, the truth is that a significant number of students have finally studied Geology, especially among those who have participated in both the Spanish and the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO). Another fact that arises from our survey is that almost all participants declare having discovered another “face” of Geology through their Olympic experience, having enjoyed learning more about this discipline, and having increased their interest in Geology.
