Resum

This doctoral thesis examines the biography of Cándido Nocedal (A Coruña, 1821-Madrid,1885), studying his political and ideological evolution from progressive liberalism, the doctrine that marked his early political career, to Carlism, the movement he supported at the time of his death.This doctoral thesis seeks to explore the ideological evolution of Cándido Nocedal, one of the most remarkable politicians in 19th century Spain. Nocedal’s political behaviour also serves as a guide for understanding the events and socio-political problems of a large part of the 19th century. Analysis of the relevant political movements and the resulting stances that Nocedal advocated, specifically in the Progressive Party (1840-1843), the Moderate Party (1844-1869), and in the Carlist Communion (1871-1885), shed light on this period.
