Abstract

The volume of bleeding after intracranial aneurysm rupture significantly influences the prognosis after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Despite the clinical significance of blood clot volume, factors that influence SAH volume have seldom been studied. This dissertation aims to determine the influence of the aneurysm morphology on the volume of hemorrhage after rupture. Methods: After a literature review paper addressing the current state-of-the-art, we analyzed a prospective cohort of patients presenting with SAH at the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre (Madrid, Spain) between 2008 and 2020. A volumetric semiautomated approach was used to determine the hemorrhage volume; its reliability has been published by our group. Accurate 3D analysis of the aneurysm morphology is achieved using anovel software (VMTKLab). In our second paper, we evaluate its reliability and accuracy by comparing the measurements obtained from the first 40 patients with the measurements obtained from the current gold standard for aneurysm morphology (cerebral angiography), concerning four main variables. The third paper evaluates the correlation between 18 morphological variables, two topographical variables, and 12 clinical-demographic variables concerning the volume of aneurysmal hemorrhage in 116 patients...
