Resumo

Aging is a universal phenomenon that affects every living thing, and that has an impact on all of the organ systems of human beings. Aging is a multifaceted process that is influenced by a variety of factors, and is characterized in the most general terms by a decline in functional capacity. The complex nature of the phenomenon requires that a distinction be drawn between chronological age and biological age. Unfortunately, no standard biomarkers of the aging process have yet been identified. However, it is generally accepted that the most important changes associated with aging begin to occur at the age of 75.The incidence of pancreatic cancer increases with age. The treatment of choice for this disease continues to be surgery supplemented with additional treatment (i.e., chemotherapy or radiation therapy). Identification of cancer on the head of the pancreas requires performing a pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) This intervention is associated with morbidity rates of between 30% and 50%, and with post-operative mortality rates of 2% among high-volume centers. The average long-term survival of patients who have submitted to resection and complementary treatment is about 22 months, with a five-year survival rate of between 15% and 20%...
