Abstract

The association “Women with their Feet on the Ground” arises from the need to address discrimination issues about women in the scientific and academic environments. Main problems towards scientists are: (1) glass ceiling, (2) lack of references, (3) absence of transparency in evaluation criteria, (4) opacity in selection/promotion processes, (5) invisibi- lity and (6) personal costs, especially related to motherhood and nursing. To make these problems visible, evaluate them and propose solutions, we carry out dissemination and awareness-raising activities. We have prepared a guided visit to the paleontological fossil site of Somosaguas (Madrid), highlighting the most relevant achievements of different women scien- tists. Another outreach activity has been the creation of the board game “Científicas Reunidas”, whose aim is to broaden the knowledge of women in the natural sciences. We also participate in round tables and research to value the position of women in Academia. With these activities we try to make known to the general public the contributions that women have made in science over the years, which have long remained in the shadows.
