Abstract

The concept of Risk of Loss of Maternal-Perinatal Well-Being (RLMPWB), which is of utmost clinical relevance, is composed of those situations with morbidity and/or mortality during the gestation control, mainly during delivery and postpartum (1). RLMPWB is a single event that impacts on both, the mother and the new-born. This concept has been used in a line of research about maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality that has been developed in the last 15 years in the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón (HGUGM). The most severe event of RLMPWB is maternal death, which has an important impact on both the health system and the familiar and social environment. Worldwide, obstetrics haemorrhageis the most frequent cause of maternal death. Although maternal mortality is a significant public health problem, maternal morbidity is much more common. For every woman who dies, directly or indirectly, because of pregnancy, there are 20 to 30 women who develop a morbidity event...
