Abstract

Celiac disease (CD) is an immune-mediated disease caused by gluten ingestion in genetically susceptible individuals. The prevalence of CD in general population is around 1%, being lower in the adult population. In Spain, it has been described around 0.27-0.32% in adults. CD is characterized by a wide variety of clinical manifestations, including infertility and recurrent spontaneous abortions (RSA). Nevertheless, due to the controversy generated by the highly heterogeneous data present in the literature, infertility and RSA are not currently included in CD screening programs. The establishment of a gluten-free diet (GFD), current treatment of CD, can lead to a successful conception if these reproductive problems are due to undiagnosed CD, which gives special relevance to the information that can be obtained from new studies in relation to this topic...
