Abstract

In the Spanish Central System, mainly composed of granitic plutons, alkaline dyke swarms are emplaced during the Upper Permian (Villaseca et al., 2004; Orejana et al., 2008). Dykes of different composition and orientation (N-S, in general) have been sampled. Rock-magnetism experiments have been carried out and the potential of this alkaline magmatism has been evaluated for both Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility (AMS) and paleomagnetic studies, supported by related petrogra- phic information. Despite the variability observed in magnetic susceptibility values or in remanence intensities, the pre- liminary results provide valuable information to understand the associated magmatic emplacement (from ASM kinematic indicators) as well as to refine (from the observed paleomagnetic directions) the paleogeographic position of Iberia at the time of acquisition of the remanences recorded in these dikes.
