Los tamaños y formatos como indicadores de la materia prima aprovechada en el macroutillaje de Valdocarros II (Arganda del Rey, Madrid)

Resum

The analysis of the catchment of lithic raw materials during the Pleistocene is one of the few approaches to the study of the mobility of the human groups of this period, especially of the predecessors of our species. Most of the studied were carried out on Upper Palaeolithic sites or Late Middle Palaeolithic sites. On the other hand, the few studies framed within the Acheulean Technocomplex have been carried out on flint, ignoring other raw materials. Valdocarros II (MIS 8/7) is a site where its materials have been found in their original position with several levels in which acheulean lithic industry and bone remains have been found in association. The rocks selected to make these tools were flint, quartz and quartzite. While the latter two were transported by the surrounding rivers, especially the Jarama, flint had to be introduced from other areas. Through the sampling of this alluvial deposits, it was confirmed that the percentage of quartzite and quartz present in the gravels does not coincide with that found in the site, which implies a selection of quartz over quartzite. At the same time, the large flakes and the Large Cutting Tools made of these rocks do not come from the immediate environment of the site, as the sizes and formats seen during the surveys do not match with those expected from these tools.
