Abstract

From the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, there were dramatic social changes characterized by growing economic power of the bourgeoisie, a concentration of population in urban areas and the emergence of poverty also concentrated in large cities. Faced with this phenomenon, typical of modern capitalism, emerging writers were concerned about this fact that caused alarm. These were mainly philosophers, religious and arbitrageurs who proposed to remedy this social scourge. This investigation detects issues that have not been studied, proposing taxonomy of the various tendencies to solve the problem of poverty, and examines the ideas of major writers and reflects on similarities in the world today.
