Abstract

Taking into account how much we are affected by the fact that the volume of contentthat is generated and transmitted on the various themes that make up the Education forSustainability increases continuously as much as the risk of suffering an social and economic catastrophe, then we should consider a Different education, that forms us in competences to transform. In order to advance in this purpose we have carried out a case study of Shumacher College, an English institution, where for 25 years innovative methodologies that allow the advance of Education for Sustainability have been successfully explored and applied. After analyzing qualitatively the interviews, documents and field notes, we find that as the main characteristics that have marked the success of its proposal: the ecological and spiritual cosmovision, the work genuinely interdisciplinary, a critical conceptual framework with the industrial-technological society, but it offers and puts into practice different alternatives, the importance of the coherence and the methodologies used. We consider that conceptual positioning, biomímesis as an ethical proposal and U Theory as a transforming methodology constitute usable resources in teacher training based on sustainability in the context of Spanish universities.
