Resum

Antecedents: el nombre creixent d’evidències suggereixen que certs aliments tenen propietats addictives. L’addicció als aliments (o addicció al menjar) ha suscitat interès a la comunitat científica. El propòsit d’aquest estudi ha estat estimar la prevalença d’addicció al menjar per examinar les seves característiques diferencials i l’associació entre els símptomes d’aquesta addicció i les variables físiques i psicològiques, com ara els comportaments relacionats amb el menjar, l’índex de massa corporal (IMC) i els trets de personalitat (per exemple, tipus de narcisisme).Mètode: La mostra es va composar de 208 participants (edat mitjana = 26,82 ± 7,89 anys; IMC = 27,53 ± 12,21 kg/m2; 80,3% gènere femení; 79,3% raça blanca). Els participants van completar una enquesta en línia d’autoavaluació de l’addicció al menjar que contenia els qüestionaris per mesurar aquests constructes. L’escala principal que es va utilitzar com a variable dependent va ser l’escala d’addicció als aliments (o al menjar) de Yale (YFAS). Resultats: el 14,4% dels participants van complir els criteris diagnòstics del YFAS per a la seva possible addicció al menjar. Els individus que compliren els criteris mostraren un major anhel o desig pel menjar, un consum més freqüent de menjar amb sucre, la tendència a desenvolupar trastorns alimentaris i una actitud i pensaments més negatius sobre la pròpia aparença física. Els classificats com a addictes al menjar també van mostrar un nivell més baix d’autoestima i de narcisisme de tipus grandiós, així com un alt nivell de narcisisme hipersensible. Els problemes relacionats amb l’anhel o el desig de menjar i de l’auto-imatge corporal van ser associats amb la severitat de l’addicció al menjar. Conclusions: Les troballes d’aquesta investigació han recolçat el constructe de l’addicció al menjar com a comportament addictiu similar a l’ús de substàncies i l’addicció al comportament. A més a més, els resultats suggereixen que aquesta potencial addicció esta relacionada amb dones joves amb sobrepès o obesitat.
