Resumo

The presence and role of pioneer women in the development and modernization of Anthropology in our country is a subject little discussed. Although at present, the participation of women in the discipline is high, during the first stages of its institutionalization in our country the presence of women was scarce and the women who participated in these initial phases enjoy little visibility and recognition in the historiographic studies of the discipline. The participation and contributions of women in these early days of Spanish Anthropology were hampered and scarcely recognized, despite their fundamental contribution to the development of innovative fields and topics in the discipline. Therefore, it is necessary to rewrite a history that recovers and makes visible their contributions within a science controlled by men and with a distinctly male perspective. The review of the work and stories of the first generations of female anthropologists, in the last decades of the 20th century, shows us the relevant female contribution in the development and consolidation of modern Physical Anthropology. The visibility of their work and the enhancement of their scientific production will contribute to drawing a more complete picture of the history of Spanish Physical Anthropology.
