Résumé

Ovine toxoplasmosis is one of the major infectious causes of abortion in sheep worldwide. However, and despite its importance, there is a lack of studies that estimate the economic cost of an outbreak, especially in dairy flocks. Thus, the present work estimates the economic losses due to an outbreak of ovine toxoplasmosis that affected a dairy flock managed under intensive conditions and which productive parameters were managed through the software G10 (MSD Animal Health®). In February 2017, thirty yearling ewes aborted during the last term of gestation. Economic losses were based on unsold suckling lambs, loss of milk production, fodder consumption during the gestation and the costs of diagnosis. Taking into account the benefits and costs during the outbreak, the economic losses for the farmer were 4393,2€ (146,4€/abortion).
