Resumen

The economic weights estimated for the base situation and the expected scenario of five-year following period for the ICO-2010 and the next ICO-2015 have been compared. Economic weights used for each ICO were based on the economic and productive parameters in 2008 and 2013, respectively. Given the payment system of milk in Spain, where quality in terms of percentage of fat and milk is not as valued as in other countries, the most economically important traits for the next 5 years will be milk volume, protein yield, longevity, and fertility. Moreover, in the selection index other traits such as somatic cell count and type traits related to udder and feet and legs must be taken into account in order to improve animal functionality.
