Resum

This paper studies the iron chain preserved in the church of Laredo and the events of the conquest of Seville. The shields and images of the town in which the chain appears are presented and a metallographic analysis is performed. The iron of this chain has been studied using optical and scanning electron microscopy, com-plemented with a study of the variation in ferrite hardness compared to normalized carbon steel, and its 13th century chronology has been certified thanks to these micro-structural changes and their implication in the mechanical properties of the iron. It is proposed that the preserved chain corresponds to the one brought by the sailors from Laredo after the Siege of Seville in 1248
