The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is an interesting case study and has become a singular opinion phenomenon. Informing and interpreting this issue is in no way an easy task. In this region the « battle » of the image, precedes and accompanies the battle of weapons. The objective of this thesis is to discover, throughout the detailed study of different editorials; the approach, the trends and the nuances that are given in the Spanish journals of reference: ABC, El País, El Mundo and La Vanguardia, to the information coming from the Middle East in the period 1993-2004. The whole investigation supports itself in two complementary pillars: The recent History and the discourse analysis of the periodical texts. With the historical study, an approach is made to the Holy Land´s context, the Spanish foreign policy of the last decades, and the path traced by each communication agency. On the other hand, the discourse analysis applies to the editorials in order to deduce the characteristics, both in form and style, of each of the journals and more specific aspects in regards to the conflict: the judgment made to each of the parties involved; the follow up and analysis made of the peace process; the prejudice or stereotypes that are raised by the public opinion and finally the « vision » that the different journals have in regards to the participation of USA and the EU. Both pillars help discover the power that the press has when constructing an image about the conflict in Spain and also which are the ideological and political views in which each of the journals faces and handles the conflict.
