Abstract

The objective was to evaluate the effect of the periodic rearrangement of lambs accordingto their weight in the feed lot pens, on the daily weight gain and the food conversion. 120lamb’s crosses, product of hair breeds with wool rams, were randomly distributed in 3treatments (A, B and C) of 40 lambs each. In A they divided into 2 pens of 20 each, in Bin 3 of 13 each and the C in 4 pens of 10 each. There were weighing every 14 days and wasrearranged according to their weight in the respective groups, from higher to lower. Thefeed was based on concentrate with 16% protein, 3 mcal of EM, medicago sativa and waterat free access. It was found that the rearrangement influenced a better weight gain at thebeginning (P<0.05), but not at the end of the fattening, regardless of the rearrangement(P≥0.05). Some lambs of the treatment A and B reached before the sale weight that thetreatment C (P<0.05) which meant a significant saving in food. It is convenient to identifywhich were the behaviors displayed in the treatments to try better explain the positive effectof the rearrangement
