Resum

Giardiosis is one of the most frequent gastrointestinal parasitoses in man and in animals. This parasitic process is not well known in the case of small ruminants, where a small number of studies exist, including only clinical and lesional aspects. It usually appears along with other concomitant parasitisms at the same age, constituting, therefore, a group of agents that produce chronic diarrhoeas In most cases, diarrhoea is produced by bacteria, virus and parasites, and the proliferation of these organisms is usually associated to a series of factors, including the management as a main one. This study tries to analyze the frequency of parasitic protozoa in young lambs. The samples have been processed by means of a concentration by filtration and centrifugation followed by flotation with cesium chloride. The concentrated product was analyzed under an optical microscope and by inmunofluorescence for detection of Giardia. The results show a global prevalence of 30,86% in Giardia spp.and 71,18% in Eimeria spp. Both parasites are present from the first months of life of the lambs, affecting them negatively.
