Abstract
The purpose of this article is to practice the classification of plane symmetry groups usig th "orbifold notation" introduced by J.H. Conway. For this purpose a periodic mosaic of each type (taken from the classical art) has been chosen. The examples have been chosen so that it is easy to detect in then the geometric relationships that characterize each of the groups. In cases where such detection can be characterized in more than one wa, the equivalence between the different ways of doing it has been explained
