Abstract

Introduction The University Orientation Services (SOU) are resources that arise, mainly, to meet the demands of information, support, advice and orientation of university students. However, there are no essential elements in higher education institutions due to not having been able to determine the effect that the functions they carry out, have on the academic-professional development of the students. For this reason, it is necessary to be able to evaluate the different actions that the SOU makes and check their value as support resources. A first step towards this direction is to know the assessment made by users of the information received in the SOU. Objectives The objective of this study is to verify the value of the SOU as a support resource and determine the satisfaction of the users. Method The study participants were 162 students from the Complutense University of Madrid, with an average age between 19 and 21 years. The majority were women, belonged to the Psychology degree and had a heterogeneous socioeconomic level. The satisfaction of the users of the SOU was evaluated, in the month of April, through an online Likert self-made questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 12 items, through which were evaluated the reasons for consultation, satisfaction with their inquiry and the treatment received, among others. Likewise, an open question was included so that the students could express the information or other aspects that they would like to be covered from the resource. Results The results indicated that 73,5 % of the students surveyed had made use of the SOU and that they are quite satisfied or very satisfied with the response received to their consultation as well as the treatment received (80,18 % and 89,66 % respectively). The data also revealed that users request greater diffusion to the Orientation Service, both their work and their accessibility, more guidance on aspects of the election during the development of the academic career and on the professional aspects and more orientation in the welcoming process. Conclusions In short, the data indicates that the students consulted consider useful the work of the Orientation Service of the Faculty of Psychology and are satisfied with the information received. Likewise, the data shown is a symptom of the effectiveness of these services and the need for their existence.
