Resumen

This article proposes a pragmatic approach to the study of the 21st century European populisms, based not on the search of a canonical definition valid for all of them, but on the uses of the past as a fundamental part of their political discourse. Using a census of 46 political parties made by the author, which is reinforced by multiple graphic testimonies (videos, photographs, posters, etc.), the article offers a thorough interpretation of the relationship that these parties establish with the national past and the role that their vintage symbolism plays in the “rituals of unanimity” that characterise populism.
