Revisión historiográfica de las construcciones encabezadas por adverbios relativos de lugar en español

Abstract

The aim of this research paper is to analyse from a historical perspective constructions headed by relative adverbs of place. Another aim is to carry out a critical review of the main studies published since the beginning of the 20th century on the different aspects related to this question. For this purpose, different interpretations of phrases including donde and a donde/ adonde will be considered. The latter have mainly focused on analysíng its grammatical category (relative adverbs of place and/ or subordinating conjunctions) and the syntactic function of the sentence they head (independent adjetive, adverbial or relative clause). Based on these criteria, two major approaches in the analysis will be followed: a differentiating approach, which classifies the sentences introduced by donde as subordinate adjectives or as a place adverbial; and an integrative approach, which agrees with the interpretation of these constructions in the NGLE and analyses these constructions as adjectival subordinates or as independent relative ones.
