Resumen

El propósito de este artículo es examinar la figura de Arquelao I y el desarrollo en Macedonia durante su reinado, así como a lo largo de todo el s. V a.C. Las fuentes literarias mencionan lo que podría haber sido un intento de mejorar la administración y organización del reino. Un análisis detallado de las fuentes resulta esencial para comprender el papel jugado por Aquelao I, junto con la posición que Macedonia ocupaba en el mundo griego, en una serie de desarrollos durante aquellos años que ofrecieron al reino la oportunidad de incrementar su poder.
