Abstract

This paper analyses the conceptions and visions of Public Order of the main rulers of the Spanish Second Republic who shared a republican political culture, studying their memoirs, diaries and writings. The objective is to criticise one aspect of the thesis which defends the preservation of the Restoration’s concept of Public Order among the leaders of the period: the underestimation of the differences between the meanings attributed to the concept and the evidences of change of some of them, in a context marked by a struggle between several actors to define the new republican order.
