Abstract

In this work, the design and implementation of an escape room is described. The game, which has been created to commemorate the International Year of the Periodic Table of the Elements, is aimed at first year students of scientific degrees, as well as at students of secondary and high school. By playing the game, the students will acquire basic specific competencies in the area of Chemistry as well as general competencies like group work or creativity and, at the same time, they will understand the difficulty associated to scientific discovery. The escape room has been tested on several groups of students of the School of Industrial Engineering of the Technical University of Madrid successfully, although a much wider implementation of the game will occur during the first months of the course 2019-20. Here, the results of the preliminary implementation are described qualitatively.
