Resumen

In this paper we present a novel methodology for mapping the geographical distribution of emotions and wellbeing within urban and inhabited spaces. A purpose built mobile application is used to combine GPS data with an emotional analysis of Twitter posts and contextual activities of participants using a fuzzy logic engine. Data generated from the application can show how emotions, triggered by different activities and events are linked to locations through a stratified representation on a map. Two separate studies are presented where data is captured from students in the city of Le ́on, Guanajuato, Mexico and at a university campus. An emotional frequency analysis is performed after several days of data collection from which spatial and temporal emotional maps have been determined. This preliminary analysis of these emotional maps suggests the feasibility of this approach for supporting better understanding of emotional well-being patterns in a smart city.
